Core Compentencies
Our Competentencies provide the individual with a map or indication
of the behaviours that will be valued, recognised and in our organisation
rewarded.
Competencies can be understood to represent the language of performance
in an organisation, articulating both the expected outcomes of
an individual’s efforts and the manner in which these activities
are carried out.

We have 8 Core Competencies which are as follows:
1) Communication Skills - The need to demonstrate
the ability to present and receive information, both oral and
written, in a manner appropriate to the audience and to take action
accordingly.
- Ensure that challenging corporate messages are delivered and
supported through open communication and is comfortable communicating
appropriately upwards, downwards and laterally.
- Use suitable business like and appropriate language in your
communication process’ which will bring the vision and
strategy of the organisation to life in an effective positive
manner.
- Persuasive communicator, able to generate a high level of
commitment from others through coaching, mentoring, and supporting
with clearly described and agreed participation.
- Takes positive action to build trust by facilitating the constructive
sharing of ideas, thoughts and feelings – builds and earns
respect.
- Speaks in all given situations with assurance, clarity, concisely
and accurately.
- Devotes time to listening, knowing when to listen without
offering opinions.
- Sensitive to body language.
- Uses humour effectively.
2) Driving Performance - The need to possess
the ability to persevere in difficult circumstances, demonstrating
tenacity and optimism in the face of adverse circumstances.
- Understands and addresses any barriers to success through
effective communication and clearly defined instruction.
- Perseveres despite knock-backs and frustrations, is not discouraged
by initial disappointments but demonstrates determination to
succeed.
- Is stable and retains composure under pressure, does not display
unreasonable outward signs of stress.
- Is prepared to stand up for what is right even in the face
of criticism. Will not take challenges to his/her decisions
personally but sees them as an opportunity for further discussion.
- Has a high level of energy which he/she outwardly conveys.
3) Commercial Awareness - An ability to take
a holistic view of the business should be demonstrated, through
an understanding of key business drivers, both financial and otherwise.
- Has the ability to work calmly when under pressure ensuring
that lines of communication are always open.
- Presents a positive picture of the Organisation to all internal
and external customers, helping them to understand the service,
support and guidance available to them and encouraging them
to use it.
- Sets strategies to meet the needs of the customer and the
business.
- Understands the company products and services and can relate
them to current revenue and profit.
- Demonstrates knowledge of relevant operational policies and
is aware of the influences that can affect performance.
- Builds relationships across organisational boundaries, developing
a network of contacts both formal and informal.
4) Managing Change / Creating Improvements -
The need to demonstrate openness to new ways of thinking and proactively
pursue improvements with a high level of drive and enthusiasm.
- Ensure continuous improvement of working practices and results
achieved across a number of teams throughout the division using
enthusiasm and initiative.
- In addition to tried and tested methods of company practise
demonstrate creativity, developing and recommending new and
innovative effective approaches to work.
- Anticipate the impact of improvements upon other procedures
and individuals, ensuring an eye for detail and focusing on
the eventual outcomes of any actions taken.
- Become an active contributor to the success of department
and their respective teams and the ultimately achievement of
our company goals.
- Always seeking opportunities to improve.
5) Self Management - The need to demonstrate
the ability to manage own performance in terms of conducting themselves
in an organised and business fashion. Identifying own needs and
developing personal skill set
- Acts in an appropriate style and fashion in any given situation,
- Demonstrates a step by step approach to problem solving resulting
in accurate, positive and efficient results.
- Has a presence and manner which allows others to effectively
contribute.
- Understands the need to constantly improve, and seeks out
opportunities to grow.
- Shows and appreciation of time scales and time management
in order to get the job done in an appropriate and timely manner.
- Able to demonstrate understanding of any given role, the goals
of that the task has and their own ability to achieve these
goals.
- Welcomes input and ideas from various sources from within
and external to the business.
- Has ability to converse, plan and inform superiors and subordinates
when they need more understanding on task in hand.
6) Planning and organising - Planning, prioritising
and monitoring skills should be shown, along with the ability
to use resources effectively to achieve set objectives
- Prioritises on a continual basis ensuring that key tasks receive
greatest attention.
- Works methodically and accurately, cutting out unnecessary
repetition within systems and procedures.
- Plans contingencies in case of setbacks although always thorough
in producing work demonstrating good planning and organisational
skills.
7) Leading People / Works as one team - Candidates
should be seen to have an active approach to seeking opportunities
to develop self and others.
- Able to regularly stand back from day to day activities’
take an overview and provide clear guidance and direction to
teams on effective strategy for improvement.
- Works effectively with others, outside and inside the Organisation,
-creating strong relationships based upon team working.
- Contribute to the creation of a positive learning environment
which encourages and achieves success in individuals and retention
of employees.
- Takes a proactive approach to own learning, not just reliant
upon company opportunities.
- Actively seeks out coaching and guidance from others.
- Knows when to seek advice, when to admit he/she does not know
the answer.
- Treats people as individuals, getting to know their strengths,
needs and concerns giving praise when it is due. Does not automatically
punish if things go wrong.
8) Decision Making - Show the ability to use
knowledge and experience to make sound judgements and measured
decisions.
- Considers various options before making a decision, listening
to the views of others and taking advice as appropriate.
- Evaluates the pros/cons of every decision taken prior to taking
action.
- Looks beyond the immediate situation and evaluates the likely
consequences of any action taken.
